In this Reading Lyotard Highlights the differences between realism and a demand. He also talks about the post modern. "Realism who only definition is that it intends to avoid the question of reality implicated in that of art, always stands somewhere between academism and kitsch. Where is the boundaries between realistic and realism. Do they stray away at all from the realism that they are trying to captivate in their artwork? In artwork today, i was interested in the difference in postmodern and modern and the realism. It seems like today many popular art forms that we see in public are more postmodern and less of realism. When i think of realism i only think of a painting. Is realism the highest standard of art? For me realism is not due to the fact, that you are nearly trying to copy or imitate something that has been already created such as a painting of a pond, or a portrait. When artists have the ability to be creative, it is the best thing. Creativity makes art, and it seems as if realism would be taking away from that.

Stary Night displays creativity. There may be a interpretation of a image of a lake, but we can see that Vincent went ahead and added his own creativity. In the Other image painted by Gustave Courbet, we can see how detailed his brush strokes are, implying a great deal of skill, but less creativity. Who is to say what is better?

  1. Might you think about realism and other creative outputs, say realism and film? Do your provocative questions remain the same? Change?
