Rich Higgins- Preclass

When discussing a piece of literature that is about Disney, I can't help but think about my personal experiences with the beloved park. It is almost a right of passage for American children to visit the massive tourist attraction at least once in there younger years. Disney was designed to capture kids imagination and allow for young people to step into a world of excitement. What has happened over the  past couple decades is that this icon brand has become lost in the desire for wealth and have begun to destroy a once respected reputation. Some of the main points in the reading was how Disney has become a negative influence on children, due to the images that they emit. The way they depict woman is offensive because of the stereotype that they display of all females being extremely svelte and overall very beautiful. Little girls grow up trying to compare themselves to this social standard created by Disney and when or if they can't compare, negative psychological effects can occur. The company is a dominant influence in America, thats no question but the way the send questionable but subconscious messages to kids is unacceptable. The industry for theme parks is a international moneymaker which is why the corporation has expanded their merchandise both in media markets and toy industry. Disney is one of the biggest companies in the world but are they having more of a negative affect than positive one on the youth today?
