Pre-Class Blog

Mark Poster talked heavily on the "comparison between the advantages and disadvantages of this this communications superhighway." Today society is based on this need to be the fastest and transmit data and imagines and ideas instantly through "high speed internet" and everything in telecommunications. "The metaphor of the superhighway only attends to the movement of information, leaving ou the various kinds of cyberspace on the internet meeting places, work areas, and electronic cafes, in  which the vast transmission of images and words have become places of communicative relation."
Society today is to addicted to the acts of communication through the internet, and non- personal relations. When it comes to business, they are fading away from the concepts and practices that made business such a relationship friendly business, such as now meeting on video chat vs face to face, and telephone calls, can now be replaced with that of the instant email and text message. The world today is moving the complete wrong way and i agree with what Lyotard is saying about society. We are getting to the point where we are LOSING OUR MINDS! Why do we spend hours and hours a day sitting in a chair staring at a TV screen or a computer. What are we really getting out of life. Why are people ok with sitting in a chair all day, and not enjoying what life has to offer outside. We are stuck in an age of "virtual reality" and the only way to eliminate people from the obsession of TV and telecommunications is to remove it permanently. I would be confident saying that if people were to have all telecommunications removed, they would be happy after they get over the initial fact that they are gone, and realize that life is much more simple. This goes for everything in society, such as to "lazy" to cook and enjoy the art of cooking, meet with people in person, and buy non commercialized goods. Today people are wound up to tight, and they need to move away from the society had formed them into, and someone needs to realize how it is destroying us.

HOW ARE THEY EVEN COMPARABLE?
