Post Class

Proper attire for mental labor
In the last class, we did a activity to help us to understand the reading. I really enjoyed analyzing the differences and viewpoints of looking at the two paintings. The classic painting of the shoes showed the authenticity and genuine aspects of a hardworking shoe, while Andy Warhol created a image of shoes that made them look as just pieces of a collection in someones closet. We argued that the shoes in the Van Gogh showed a lot more and we could see the wear and tear. We talked that the Warhol showed shoes as non working shoes. I feel as we did not consider the fact that not everyone did physical labor. To those women in the business world, those shoes would be a working shoe to them, and those who do physical labor would wear the van gogh. People who work in physical labor tend to only need one pair of shoes as van gogh pointed out, and in the new generation of the Buisness world, it is necessary for a women to have multiple pairs of shoes. As the Eagles would say in doolin-dalton, And a man could use his back or use his brain. We should have argued the fact that not all jobs require such shoes.  I would personally rather have the Van Gogh painting because there seems to be so much more authenticity and hard work that went into it. The Warhol i don't understand his style of just printing some shoes on paper and its "art." The one by Van Gogh tooks hours day, even weeks to paint, and it shows in the artwork with every brush stroke. I took classes in Art History and half of them we talked about was just the question of are they abusing the power of being a "well known artist." Is a urinal on a wall art? Is scribbled paint on canvas art? I feel as the postmodern artists are straying away from the modern technique and people believe its good art when it really doesn't take much effort.
Stupid art
