Short Blog: Writerly vs Readerly Texts

In a readerly text, meaning is fixed and specifically designed for a particular reading by the reader. They are designed so that there is no room for an adjustment or deviation of the meaning by the reader. These texts are accepted to be disposable and often commercialized. Writerly texts are positioned for the reader to take control over the material and interpret the meaning in different ways. Writerly texts open up for a multiplicity of different meanings and attempt to dismantle the reader's literary expectations. By doing this they make the text less commoditized.
